- MESSAGE: August 6, 2009 "Dennis, I happened
to come across your web while searching Anthony
Kosowski. The one on the page I found I doubt is her
as my Antonina Lichota was in Poland in Feb. 1922.
She is my husband Thaddeus Guciks' Godmother -
Anthony Kosowski is his Godfather. His mother was
Angela Kosowski Gucik. His father was Ladislaus.
His mother died at childbirth. His father died when he was
4 or 5. His grandfather was Jacob and he had an
aunt Julia. He was born in Zarki (Chrzanow County )
Poland. This area is not too far from the area you are
talking about. He was taken to an orphanage in Krakow when
he was 10 or 11. He knows nothing about the Kosowski
side of his family. I would love to be able to fill in the
blanks for him. I feel so bad for him as I'm sure he
probably had family he didn't know about and had to grow
up all alone. If you have any info on the Kosowskis
in that area in the 1920s and 30s. I would love to find
any link . Thad went from the orphanage right into
the Polish Army during WW11. He came to the U. S. in 1950.
Any info would be greatly appreciated." Sincerely,
Patricia Gucik
- MESSAGE: April 19, 2009 "Dear Dennis, Thank
you for your recent E mail.
I am very sorry to hear of your mother's death and of your own illness. I do hope you are feeling better now.
I found on the internet a list of recipients of the highest Polish military decoration - the Virtuti Militari from 1792 - 1992. There is a Stefan Swiechowski in it, but unfortunately it does not give the year it was awarded or any other information. It was on http://feefhs.org/pl/vm//vm-s2.html It might have been1792!!!
We have two heavy volumes of the Polish Air Force at War 1939 - 1943 There ia a mention of a Stanislaus Swiechowski who served in 318 Squadron Which was a Squadron of Polish airmen in the Royal Air Force. They were formed to support the _Polish Forces fighting their way up Italy. ( including at the famous Battle of Monte Cassino. The Squadron was disbanded in 1946. His name was not mentioned in the casualty list so he must have survived until then. After the War many ex- Polish servicemen emigrated to countries such as Canada and Australia, so perhaps he went there. Very few returned to Poland as their arrest would have been very likely. I just thought these two bits of information might be of some general interest to you, as I'm sure they would have all been from the one family of Swiechowski as there are not many of them about. I have not heard from my husband's niece since in Warsaw since Easter 2008 and she did not provide the information I asked for re finding out the full name of my husband's father Jozef Swiechoswki, which would have been on her father' Baptismal Certificate. She could have got it from the Catholic authorities in Wielicka. Hope to hear form you some time when you feel up to it." Kindest Regards' Joan (Swiechowska] Swinburn

Chadra pix
and info: Dennis, You are a far more dedicated and disciplined genealogist
than yours truly. Almost all of the information I have collected, with the exception of
McLaren documents inherited from my Mom, has come from Ancestry.com.
Oh, wait, I did spend several months at the
local LDS Family History Center with my eyes glued to the
microfilm reader as I tried to decipher
Canadian Census data. Otherwise, it's sitting at home on
the computer. One question, just because I'm curious: Your website shows
Frank living as a boarder in Allentown, West Virginia in the 1920 Census. I know
his wife, Florentyna died in 1913. Who was raising your father and
his three younger siblings? I'm always amazed at what
extended family, friends, even neighbors, were willing to do to help folks like
Frank - who obviously couldn't work in the mines and raise a family at the same
time. Thank you, again, for your willingness to share information and
documents and pictures. I love the pictures! Incidentally, the picture of
Helena in my
Nelson tree on Ancestry is from her wedding picture with
Andrew Gute. I'm assuming you have access to
Ancestry - is that where you saw the Gute
/ Farnaus / Chadra tree?" Dave McLaren

Dave, My grandmother Florentyna died in 1913, she was with child. My aunt Emily was standing by her when she was found in the kitchen. Within a few weeks, Frank was married to Anna Majerczyk who was introduced by another miner in Eccles, WV. Anna and Frank had five children one of which died at 1-1/2 years. The four boys are shown in a photo at http://www.eccleswv.com/hadra_3.htm The four children of Florentyna and Frank are shown in the photo at http://www.eccleswv.com/hadra_1.htm Frank was listed in two 1920 census records. He moved back to Eccles, WV looking for work. April 1920 - The US Census shows that Frank Chadra family residing at 101 Jefferson Road, Jefferson Township, Astabula County, Ohio. Stanley Hadra recalls that the family was trying to farm a stone-filled land and gave up on the idea. I originally saw the photo of Helena on the Ancestry.com site which prompted my email to you. - MESSAGE: April 1, 2009 "Sent: Subject: Pix of
Frank and Helena: Dennis, Thank you for your kind offer. I would
sincerely appreciate a look at any pictures of Helena (Farnaus-Gute)
Chadra and Frank Chadra that you have. Helena Farnaus is
my wife’s great grandmother. Her first marriage, to Andrew Gute,
produced my wife’s grandmother, Anna Gute – who bore my wife’s dad.
Helena was sixty six years old when she married
your grandfather. Her first husband died one year and one
month prior to their marriage. I got a look at your
website, and got lots more information on Frank Chadra.
Very nice!" Thank you, again. David McLaren

David, Attached please find some photos and documents pertaining to the marriage of my grandfather Frank Chadra and Helen. If you have anything else to share I would appreciate it. I remember Helen very well. She used to hug and kiss me when I visited as a teenager. She was very sweet and friendly. When I attended College in the early 1970s I was sitting sat next to a young man, I don't recall his name, but he asked if Frank Chadra was my grandfather. I replied yes. He then said that my grandfather was married to his grandmother, Helen! Small world. In 1962 - 1963 I was stationed at MCRD San Diego. It was a cool place back then."
