- MESSAGE: October 23, 2004 "Hi. My name is
Christine Shad and I've been trying to find information on some of my
descendants when I came across your web site. My great-great-grandparents
were Vencil and Agnes (Uher) Malec, who were married in Cook County
IL in the 1870's.
By the 1880 census they had moved to Madison, Dane County, WI. On their marriage certificate Vencil's last name looks like it's spelled: Malez, although it also looks like there's a "t" tacked on to the end. We always thought that the original spelling of their last name was "Maletz", but no one knows for sure.
On an online 1911 Madison directory, Agnes is listed as Aneska and Vencil's brother and his wife are listed as John and Agnes Malec. Both brothers were shoemakers. Vencil and Agnes had 8 children: Anton b. 1870, Marie b. 1874, Carl (Cully) b. 1878, Aloysius (Alois) b. 1880, Francis b. 1882, Emil b 1883, Agnes (my great-grandmother) b. 1885 and Emealie b 1887. Agnes (or Aneska) & Vencil Malec were both from Bohemia and that's all we know about our Bohemian heritage.
I know nothing about either Venicl's or Agnes' parents. Does any of this tie in with anything that you know? I'd appreciate any information that you may have."
Thank you, Christine Shad Proud Parent of PFC David, United States Marine Corps cjuuls@bellsouth.net
- MESSAGE: April 21, 2004 "I know that they (Malec)
lived near Krakow amongst cousins and that there are cousins that are more
than likely still there. As I continue my search, I will let you know what I
find. If memory serves me both my Great-Grandfather and my Great-Grandmother
were born in Krakow.
I will hopefully have this information by the end of the week. My mother has papers at home to go through. As I said, I'll let you know if I find anything." Many thanks! Alena Courjaud
- MESSAGE: April 19, 2004 "Hello, I'm writing you from
Canada as I was searching for our family name Malec and your request
came up. Paul Malec was my great-grandfather, emigrating from Poland
to New York (approx 1903)- birth place is unknown at this time. He married
Franceska and had 3 children Wiktoria (born Austria),
Paulina (Poland) and Franck (Poland). Some information that we
have is that he may have owned a gas station in New York.
Pauline (my grandmother) emigrated to Canada with her husband Alexandre Courjaud and young son Alexandre Paul from France.
Should you have any information on any of these people, please contact me immediately. We are just beginning our search so any information would be valuable." Alena N. Courjaud acourjau@ford.com

MESSAGE: February 16, 2004 "I'm sure new to
genealogy. It doesn't seem to be as easy as I imagined! Thank you so much
for the Kosowski information. I don't see any connection yet, but it
is another piece of the puzzle.
The confusing part is that while my family came over as Kosowski's in 1903, once here they changed their name to Schmidt. We didn't even know about the Kosowski part until a few months ago, when we saw the ship's list. So if they were Schmidt's or Kosowski's in Prussia, we don't know.
One question. Most of the Kosowski information I find seems to be for Jewish families. Our family is Roman Catholic, although my great grandmother (who married Joseph Kosowski and was named Marie Leskowski evidently spoke Yiddish at times, according to my Mom. Is Kosowski a common Jewish name?
Thanks again, and best to you!" Dan Sanders belalugosi57@yahoo.com
